Hamilton Health is one of the last pieces to the puzzle for the new Steel Works development in Steelton.
Construction is expected to begin on the new two story, 20,000-square-foot Hamilton Health Center next summer and be completed by the end of 2023.
Wormleysburg-based Integrated Development Partners, the developer behind Steel Works will receive $2.5 million in grant money from that state to build the new center, the state announced this week.
The grant money will come from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.
Jonathan Bowser, the managing partner of IDP said his company has been in the planning stages with Hamilton Health for several months.
The building will include medical exam rooms, administrative offices, and clinical spaces to support Hamilton Health’s primary care, mental health, substance abuse and WIC program services, according to the state.
Hamilton Health will sit on the six-acre site, known as Steel Works. The site will consist of four standalone buildings from 102 to 230 N. Front St. with 150,000 square feet of residential, retail, and office space.
Steel Works Apartments, a 60,000-square-foot building will include 46 apartments and 5,000 square feet of commercial space. One of the businesses that will be located in the building is Good Brotha’s Book Cafe and it will be located alongside a fitness area, common area and other businesses.
A Dollar General opened on the site in April.
And, SeniorLIFE’s 15,000-square-foot facility is expected to be completed early next year. SeniorLIFE is relocating from 1910 Manada St. in Harrisburg. SeniorLIFE (Living Independence for the Elderly) provides home and community-based healthcare funded by Medicare and Medicaid for lower-income seniors. The LIFE program provides medical care and supportive services for people ages 55 years and older.
Also part of the development is “The Brickyard at Emuel Powell Jr Park,“ a site for future gatherings, open space and an entertainment venue for the community to host community events and festivals.
Integrated Development Partners purchased the land in 2018 and broke ground on the complex last year, which is across the street from borough hall and in front of endless rows of old steel mills.
