Steel Works Construction, a new privately held minority-owned construction management company, recently opened with two locations in Steelton and Wormleysburg.
Midstate entrepreneur Jonathan Bowser’s newest venture, Steel Works is a tier one contractor offering private and public construction on projects that require minority participation.
As a tier one contractor, Steel Works Construction will partner with tier two minority, women and disadvantaged owned subcontractors, something that Bowser said will allow him to help get more minority-owned subcontractors’ work.
“It’s a passion of mine. I want to see more minorities and women in the construction field,” he said. “There are a lot of opportunities for high paying jobs and careers, in addition to entrepreneurship opportunities. I want to do my part in introducing those opportunities to woman and minorities.”
Bowser is co-founder and managing partner of Integrated Development Partners, a Harrisburg-based real estate development and consulting firm. Opening a construction management company felt like a natural step for him and his team, said Bowser.
“We have managed our own construction projects over the last several years and have been successful,” he said. “Naturally the next step is to bring portions of the construction process in-house and serve our needs but also the needs of our clients and partners. For our clients, our value add is that we are also developers and landowners, so we understand the process from start to completion.”
The new company plans to focus on local work for organizations with procurement guidelines that include minority participation such as projects for municipalities, quasi-government agencies, county development agencies and privately held companies.
