Hamilton Health Center breaks ground on Steelton expansion

Hamilton Health Center broke ground Friday, March 24, 2023, on a new location in the Steelton-Highspire area.

Hamilton Health Center, a Harrisburg-based Federally Qualified Health Center, broke ground March 24 on a new branch in the Steelton-Highspire area.

It will be a two-story steel building at 120 N. Front St., Steelton, with approximately 10,000 square feet per floor. The first floor will include a clinical space for eight family practice exam rooms; a Women, Infants & Children office; and space for a pharmacy with drive-thru.

Office space for staff and providers will be on the second floor. In addition, the roof will utilize green technology with 7,000 square feet of solar panels.

Hamilton also has satellite health centers in Union Deposit, Millersburg and Perry County.

The new site will provide critical health care to the community, a release said, and be part of The Steel Works Revitalization, a mixed-use development in Steelton’s town center spearheaded by engineering firm Integrated Development Partners.

In addition to Hamilton, the development will include a retail store, and an apartment complex with first-floor commercial space.

Hamilton has provided adults and children with affordable health care services since 1969.

In marking the groundbreaking, Hamilton’s Board Chair Michael Harris stated that the Steelton expansion positions the organization “to meet growing needs of the community.”

There is a “palpable excitement” at Hamilton for the new site, he said, and “we all look forward to serving the Steelton area.”
